Ember: GMHRCH in 2024

GMHRCH Touched By The Sun’s Moon Shadow  (Ember)
Joe & Julie Grohs

Ember reached the 1,000-point mark in NAHRA on June 9, 2024, at the Spokane Bird Dog Association’s spring test — the same grounds where her dam, Summer, earned her GMHRCH title. Two generations. One field. A shared legacy.

Her name, Touched by the Sun’s Moon Shadow, carries meaning on both sides. “Touched by the Sun” honors her mother, Summer. “Moon Shadow” comes from the Cat Stevens song of the same name — a reflection on quiet resilience, on moving forward steadily even in the face of difficulty. That balance fits Ember perfectly.

From the beginning, Ember was my shadow. As a puppy, she stayed close, watching and following rather than wandering off with her littermates. At just seven weeks old, she would bring me anything she could carry, simply to be near and part of what was happening. That instinct wasn’t taught. It was simply who she was.

As she matured, that attentiveness became precision. Ember is fast, steady, and relentlessly reliable — a high-powered dog with control and purpose. She runs clean, listens carefully, and rarely gets rattled. There’s no wasted motion and no unnecessary drama. Just results.

Born in March 2020 from Summer’s first litter, Ember has earned her GMHRCH, MUR, and AKC Master Hunter titles. She was NAHRA’s High Point Senior Dog in both 2023 and 2024, edging out her dam by a single pass each year — not through flash, but through consistency.

She earned her first NAHRA Invitational pass in June of 2024, just two weeks after reaching 1,000 points. As of September 2025, Ember has accumulated 65 Senior passes and 21 Senior Upland passes, with many seasons ahead.

She has been my shadow from the start — quiet, watchful, constant. Ember feels like a gift from Summer, carrying forward all that came before her, and taking it further into the future.

Together we continue learning, trusting the work, honoring tradition, and moving forward with purpose.

“Yes, I’m being followed by a moonshadow…”— Cat Stevens, Moonshadow
