DDwight Dial, Alaska Regional Director

I was introduced to small and big game hunting by my Dad more than 60 years ago.  We had an untrained golden, Falstaff, that we took pheasant hunting in eastern Colorado and western Kansas.  Although the dog occasionally marked and retrieved he was much better at bumping birds that were out of shotgun range.

Fast forward to 2005.  I heard that Midnight Sun Gun Dog Association (MSGDA) was holding a picnic fun hunt.  Kim and I took our young dogs to see what it was all about.  I was struck by how nice everyone is and their willingness to help a neophyte dog trainer.

After that, I was hooked.  I was fortunate to have a lab that would go on to get his MHR and make me look like a much better trainer than I am.  Since then, I have gone on to judge numerous hunt tests and continue training my dogs and of course, hunt with them as much as I can.
